Case studies summary

Since 1995 TER has made more than 1,600 stolen equipment recoveries valued at more than £10M for most UK equipment insurance companies as well as a significant number of companies and individuals.

The equipment has ranged from small trailers valued at only several hundred pounds to a huge Caterpillar Loading Shovel valued at £125,000.  These machines have been recovered not only from across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, but also in the Ireland, France, Holland, Poland, Cyprus, Israel, and Australia.

The overwhelming majority of TER’s recovery cases are made in support of the police and law enforcement agencies, either by responding to a request for TER’s nationally based Investigators to be deployed during the execution of a warrant against a premises or during routine police operations on the national roads network, in ports, or where officers seek TER’s 24/7 telephone assistance with the identification of an item of equipment.

The cases studies selected here serve to illustrate the range of equipment stolen by criminals and the breadth of law enforcement utilisation of TER’s services. The case studies shed light on criminal methodology, and this helps to inform our work with law enforcement when targeting equipment criminals and their premises.
