Dealers and traders

Around 750,000 items of plant and equipment are traded annually in the UK.  There are around 100,000 stolen items registered on TER’s database which rises annually at between 5,000-10,000 for higher value items, and at a significantly higher rate when smaller items such as towed generators and compressors are included.

Criminals who steal plant and equipment want to convert it into cash.  To do this they utilise dealers to trade it in or sell it onto to traders where it enters the used equipment trade.  Dealers and traders should protect themselves from being abused by equipment thieves by checking the registered ownership and finance status with TER prior to accepting equipment in partex or purchasing used equipment.

Where the dealer or trader has had equipment stolen directly from them, they can report the loss to TER, for free, in order to maximise the opportunities for it being recovered.

Dealers and traders should TER Check all partex and equipment purchases prior to partex or purchase in order to determine the registered ownership and finance status of the equipment. Click here for further details
