JCB 535-125 telescopic handler

Internet success

Many of the larger equipment auctioneers not only sell used equipment to people who turn up at their sites, but they also offer it at the same time over the internet, making their 'sales days' truly global.  TER monitors all these sales, gathering the data and checking the equipment identities against the TER database.

Just such a sale was going on at Euro Auctions in Dromore in Northern Ireland when, bingo, we made a match on the sale of a JCB 535-125 telescopic handler.  First, we confirmed that the theft was still outstanding with the police and the insurer, Allianz Cornhill.  Then we contacted Euro Auctions to request that they hold the machine – it had already been sold to one of their customers – pending inspection by TER and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

The identity was verified by a TER Investigator the following morning, and TER – with the agreement of the insurer – allowed the Euro Auction client to continue their purchase on behalf of the insurer.  Everyone happy, except the party who put the telehandler into the auction.

We encourage auctions to do their TER Checks pre-auction.  All buyers from auctions should request the TER Check Certificate which shows that the auction has done their TER due diligence.
